John Nelson Darby Version: Doctrinal Changes to the Holy Bible

In view of John Darby's departure from historic Christian beliefs, let us examine his bible

King James Bible John Darby Version
And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

Matthew 24:14

Matthew 24:14 And these glad tidings of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole habitable earth, for a witness to all the nations, and then shall come the end.

[See more citations in: Darby's and Scofield's "Habitable Earth/World" Doctrine]

Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

Luke 21:36

Watch therefore, praying at every season, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things which are about to come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man

[John Darby inserted a message of immediacy into many prophetic verses of scripture. See more citations in: John Darby's Pre-Tribulation Rapture Alterations to the Bible]

Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds

2 Cor. 12:12

The signs indeed of the apostle were wrought among you in all endurance, signs, and wonders, and works of power.

["Works of power" is a term largely used by occultists! To my knowledge "works of power" appears only in the Darby Bible and the Bible in Basic English. See more citations in: Occult Phrase, "Works of Power" Marks Darby Version

And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?

Matt. 11:3

and said to him, Art *thou* the coming [one]? or are we to wait for another? (Info about brackets)

(The 'Coming One' is the title of the New Age World Teacher, "the Christ"))

¶ And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

2 Pet. 2:3

¶ And through covetousness, with well-turned words, will they make merchandise of you: for whom judgment of old is not idle, and their destruction slumbers not.

[Destruction can mean anything such as sickness, injury, poverty or death. Damnation is specific: eternal punishment in hell.] See more citations in: The John Darby Version removed the words, "damned" and "damnation" blue image with white letters that says updateCyrus Scofield did too!

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

Proverbs 4:7

The beginning of wisdom is, Get wisdom; and with all thy getting get intelligence.

[John Darby repeatedly used the word, "intelligence" to replace what God gives to his people: understanding, wisdom, and judgment. See more citations in: Darby's "Intelligence" Replaced God-given Wisdom and Understanding.]

That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

2 Thess. 2:2

that ye be not soon shaken in mind, nor troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter, as [if it were] by us, as that the day of the Lord is present.

See: John Darby and Cyrus Scofield on the "Day of Christ"

Matthew 12:32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

Matthew 12:32

And whosoever shall have spoken a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him; but whosoever shall speak against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this age nor in the coming one.

And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:

Luke 24:46

and said to them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved the Christ to suffer, and to rise from among the dead the third day;

Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

The King James Bible tells us that we are looking for the appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ. It describes his appearing as "glorious."

Titus 2:13

awaiting the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ;

[Darby changed "glorious appearing" to "appearing of the glory."]

How is this significant?  Rather than waiting for the appearing of Jesus Christ (as stated in the KJV), Darby has his Bible say awaiting the appearing of not someone (Jesus Christ) but rather, some thing.

What does J.N. Darby say is being waited for? The appearing of (his) glory. In this verse, John Darby removed the glorious appearing of Christ from Scripture.

The heavens declare the glory of God . . . (Ps. 19:1) The glory of God is already there for all to behold, even the lost.  Titus 2:13 is not about waiting for the appearing of God's glory. It is about waiting for the appearing of God (our Savior Jesus Christ) himself!

Modern versions such as the NLT, NIV, ESV, HCSB, NASB, RSV, ASV, YLT, and HNV (not a complete list) also teach false doctrine in Titus 2:13  by replacing looking for the glorious appearing of Jesus Christ with a rewording that is about looking/waiting for the appearing of his glory instead.

What could be a plausible application of this change? Strategically placed holograms can depict, on a seemingly global scale, a counterfeit "appearing of the glory" of "Christ". Beware false Bible versions and the false teachings taught therein.

For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.

Heb. 9:26

since he had [then] been obliged often to suffer from the foundation of the world. But now once in the consummation of the ages he has been manifested for [the] putting away of sin by his sacrifice.

[See: Theosophists Look for the "Consummation of the Age"]

For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

2 John 1:7

For many deceivers have gone out into the world, they who do not confess Jesus Christ coming in flesh--this is the deceiver and the antichrist.

[Coming in flesh is future tense.] See: Darby/Scofield's "coming in flesh" Christ is Antichrist]

Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

Luke 17:21

nor shall they say, Lo here, or, Lo there; for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.

[The Scofield 1917 Reference Bible's marginal note: in the midst of. See: Scofield: "in the midst of" Vs Jesus Christ: "within you"]

And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;

Luke 2:22

And when the days were fulfilled for their purifying according to the law of Moses, they brought him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord

[According to the Darby Version, Jesus Christ needed purification! This alteration fits the change he made regarding Jesus' parentage. See below.]

And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him.

Luke 2:33

And his father and mother wondered at the things which were said concerning him.

[According to the Darby Version, Joseph was the father of Jesus Christ!]

For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

1 Corinthians 6:20

for ye have been bought with a price: glorify now then God in your body.

[Darby omitted "and in your spirit, which are God's."

Scofield did the same via his marginal note f on page 1217: Some authorities end verse with "body."]

And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

Luke 4:8

And Jesus answering him said, It is written, Thou shalt do homage to the Lord thy God, and him alone shalt thou serve.

[Darby removed "Get thee behind me, Satan"!]

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen

Matthew 6:13

and lead us not into temptation, but save us from evil.

[Darby removed "For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen."]

And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

Luke 11:4

and remit us our sins, for we also remit to every one indebted to us; and lead us not into temptation.

[Darby removed "but deliver us from evil."]

And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

Acts 8:37

Darby's footnote: T.R. adds (ver. 37)

Scofield's maginal note: The best authorities omit v. 37

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.

Matthew 23:14

OMIT

Darby's footnote: T.R. adds 'Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for ye devour the houses of widows, and as a pretext make long prayers. For this reason ye shall receive a severer judgment' (ver. 14)

Scofield's maginal note: The best MSS omit v. 14

But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

Matt. 5:22

But *I* say unto you, that every one that is lightly angry with his brother shall be subject to the judgment; but whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be subject to [be called before] the sanhedrim; but whosoever shall say, Fool, shall be subject to the penalty of the hell of fire.

[Darby removed "without a cause" in regard to being angry with one's brother. Jesus Christ had cause to be angry with the moneychangers in the temple but Darby's Version turns the sinless Son of God into a sinner.]

Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.

1 Timothy 2:7

to which *I* have been appointed a herald and apostle, (I speak the truth, I do not lie,) a teacher of the nations in faith and truth.

[John Darby removed "in Christ."]

Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.

1 Cor. 7:5

Defraud not one another, unless, it may be, by consent for a time, that ye may devote yourselves to prayer, and again be together, that Satan tempt you not because of your incontinency.

[Darby removed fasting.]

John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

John 14:16

And I will beg the Father, and he will give you another Comforter, that he may be with you for ever,
I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

1 Timothy 2:8

I will therefore that the men pray in every place, lifting up pious hands, without wrath or reasoning.
For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.

Phil. 3:3

For *we* are the circumcision, who worship by the Spirit of God, and boast in Christ Jesus, and do not trust in flesh.

[John Darby removed "God"]

For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.

2 Corinthians 2:17

For we do not, as the many, make a trade of the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as of God, before God, we speak in Christ.

[John Darby changed "corrupt" to "make a trade"]

Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

1 Timothy 4:12

Let no one despise thy youth, but be a model of the believers, in word, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.

[John Darby removed "in spirit."]

If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.

John 7:17

If any one desire to practise his will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is of God, or that I speak from myself.

[John Darby changed "will do his will" to "desire to practise his will."]

Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

2 Timothy 3:12

And all indeed who desire to live piously in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.

[John Darby changed "will live godly" to "desire to live piously"]

To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

Acts 1:3

to whom also he presented himself living, after he had suffered, with many proofs; being seen by them during forty days, and speaking of the things which concern the kingdom of God;

[John Darby removed "infallible" (proofs)!]

The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.

1 Corinthians 15:47

the first man out of the earth, made of dust; the second man, out of heaven.

[Darby failed to reveal the second man is the Lord from heaven.]

And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.

1 Corinthians 11:24

and having given thanks broke it, and said, This is my body, which is for you: this do in remembrance of me.

[Darby removed "take, eat" and "broken for you."]

For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.

1 Corinthians 11:29

For the eater and drinker eats and drinks judgment to himself, not distinguishing the body.

[Darby removed "unworthily" and changed "damnation" to "judgment."

In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

Colossians 1:14

in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins;

[John Darby removed "through his blood"]

But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof:

1 Corinthians 10:28

But if any one say to you, This is offered to holy purposes, do not eat, for his sake that pointed it out, and conscience sake;

[Darby replaced "in sacrifice unto idols" with "offered to holy purposes"! It is Satan's followers who consider "in sacrifice unto idols" to be something "offered to holy purposes."]

[Darby also removed "for the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof"]

And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:

Ephesians 3:9

and to enlighten all with the knowledge of what is the administration of the mystery hidden throughout the ages in God, who has created all things,

[Darby removed "by Jesus Christ"]

Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

Galatians 4:7

So thou art no longer bondman, but son; but if son, heir also through God.

[Darby removed "heir of God through Christ"]

And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

Matt. 19:17

And he said to him, What askest thou me concerning goodness? one is good. But if thou wouldest enter into life, keep the commandments.

[typical Modern Version change]

Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Thess. 1:1

Paul and Silvanus and Timotheus to the assembly of Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace to you and peace.

[Darby changed church to assembly and removed "from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ."]

[Darby also removed "from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ."]

O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?

Galatians 3:1

O senseless Galatians, who has bewitched you; to whom, as before your very eyes, Jesus Christ has been portrayed, crucified among you?

[Darby removed, "that ye should not obey the truth"]

And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.

John 6:69

and we have believed and known that thou art the holy one of God.

[Holy one of God is a title used only by devils in the KJV. John Darby replaced, "that Christ, the Son of the living God" with a phrase used only by devils!]

These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

1 John 5:13

These things have I written to you that ye may know that ye have eternal life who believe on the name of the Son of God.

[Darby removed, "that believe on the name of the Son of God."]

For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

1 John 5:7

For they that bear witness are three:

[Darby removed, "in heaven" and "the Father, the Word and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one."]

And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

1 John 5:8

the Spirit, and the water, and the blood; and the three agree in one.

[Darby removed, "And there are three that bear witness in earth"]

Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

1 John 3:16

Hereby we have known love, because *he* has laid down his life for us; and *we* ought for the brethren to lay down our lives.

[Darby removed, "of God"]

Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

1 Tim. 1:17

Now to the King of the ages, [the] incorruptible, invisible, only God, honour and glory to the ages of ages. Amen.

[Darby removed the immortal and "only wise" description of God! He changed "immortal" to "incorruptible" and removed "wise" (in reference to God!)]

To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

Jude 1:25

to the only God our Saviour, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, might, and authority, from before the whole age, and now, and to all the ages. Amen.

[Darby greatly altered this verse and again removed the adjective, "wise" in reference to God.]

Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

Hebrews 1:3

who being the effulgence of his glory and the expression of his substance, and upholding all things by the word of his power, having made by himself the purification of sins, set himself down on the right hand of the greatness on high,

[Darby altered this verse to teach that Jesus Christ is the expression of God's substance rather than that he is the express image of his (God's) person! Darby changed purged to purification and Majesty to greatness.]

For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance.

Hebrews 10:34

For ye both sympathised with prisoners and accepted with joy the plunder of your goods, knowing that ye have for yourselves a better substance, and an abiding one.

[Darby removed "in heaven"]

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

2 Timothy 2:15

Strive diligently to present thyself approved to God, a workman that has not to be ashamed, cutting in a straight line the word of truth.

[Darby changed the only verse in the bible that commands believers to study the Bible to "strive diligently."]

By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.

Acts 4:30

In that thou stretchest out thy hand to heal, and that signs and wonders take place through the name of thy holy servant Jesus.
Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.

Hebrews 11:11

By faith also Sarah herself received strength for the conception of seed, and that beyond a seasonable age; since she counted him faithful who promised.

[Darby removed, "and was delivered of a child."]

2 Thessalonians 3:5 And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.

2 Thess. 3:5

But the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patience of the Christ. [The KJV says the Lord directs Christians into the patient waiting for Christ, Darby's Version directs them into the patience of "the Christ."!]
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Acts 17:29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.

Rom. 1:20

Acts 17:29

--for from the world's creation the invisible things of him are perceived, being apprehended by the mind through the things that are made, both his eternal power and divinity, --so as to render them inexcusable.

Being therefore the offspring of God, we ought not to think that which is divine to be like gold or silver or stone, the graven form of man's art and imagination.

[John Darby removed the Godhead from these verses!]

¶ What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision?

Rom. 3:1

¶ What then [is] the superiority of the Jew? or what the profit of circumcision?
Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

Rom. 3:25

whom God has set forth a mercy-seat, through faith in his blood, for [the] shewing forth of his righteousness, in respect of the passing by the sins that had taken place before, through the forbearance of God;

[Remission means pardon, forgiveness. "Passing by the sins" suggests that God overlooked the sins.]

Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also:

Rom. 3:29

Is [God] the God of Jews only? is he not of [the] nations also? Yea, of nations also:
¶ For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

2 Pet. 1:16

¶ For we have not made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, following cleverly imagined fables, but having been eyewitnesses of *his* majesty.

[Satan (and his followers) consider his fables to be clever. God condemns them as cunning.]

Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

Rom. 6:18

Now, having got your freedom from sin, ye have become bondmen to righteousness.

[Darby, along with other textual critics, taught via his translation the Luciferian lie that Christians are slaves (bondmen) of God rather than servants.]

And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.

Matthew 4:24

And his fame went out into the whole [of] Syria, and they brought to him all that were ill, suffering under various diseases and pains, and those possessed by demons, and lunatics, and paralytics; and he healed them.

[Bible translations based on corrupt manuscripts use phrases such as "possessed by demons" or "demon possessed." The use of such exorcist-styled wording serves Satan's purpose by making Christians afraid to minister to people who are afflicted with evil spirits.]

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

John 6:47

Verily, verily, I say to you, He that believes [on me] has life eternal.

[Darby's use of brackets indicates that the corrupt manuscripts (on which he based his translation) did not include the words, "on me.")

For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judaea are in Christ Jesus: for ye also have suffered like things of your own countrymen, even as they have of the Jews:

1 Thess. 2:14

For *ye*, brethren, have become imitators of the assemblies of God which are in Judaea in Christ Jesus; for *ye* also have suffered the same things of your own countrymen as also *they* of the Jews,

[Infiltrators imitate (mimic or counterfeit) the real thing. Genuine Christian brethren become followers of the churches of God.]

Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.

1 Timothy 1:16

But for this reason mercy was shewn me, that in me, [the] first, Jesus Christ might display the whole long-suffering, for a delineation of those about to believe on him to life eternal.
And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.

John 6:69

and we have believed and known that thou art the holy one of God.

[Darby follows the corrupt manuscripts that omitted, "Christ, the Son of the living God.]

For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God

1 Thess. 1:9

for they themselves relate concerning us what entering in we had to you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve a living and true God

[Christians don't serve a God. We serve the God! John Darby's translation also states that Jesus was an only-begotten with a father!]

Forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they might be saved, to fill up their sins alway: for the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost

1 Thess. 2:16

forbidding us to speak to the nations that they may be saved, that they may fill up their sins always: but wrath has come upon them to the uttermost.

[Just like his contemporary, Thomas Newberry, Darby replaced the word, Gentiles with nations.]

To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.

1 Thess. 3:13

in order to the confirming of your hearts unblamable in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.

[Darby inserted once saved always saved doctrine by removing the words that "to the end" he will stablish your hearts. See another example of Darby's osas additions to scripture.]

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Rom. 8:1

¶ [There is] then now no condemnation to those in Christ Jesus.

[John Darby, again marking his "version" for his dispensationalist agenda, removed the conditional part of Romans 8:1. Cyrus Scofield, a student of Darby's theology, removed the sobering conditional part of this verse in his Reference Bible by inserting this note: "This statement ends with 'Jesus Christ;' the last ten words are interpolated. Note: interpolated means added to the original.]

For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

Rom. 8:13

for if ye live according to flesh, ye are about to die; but if, by the Spirit, ye put to death the deeds of the body, ye shall live:

[Darby's re-wording of this verse reminds me of the fact that Christians who understand the bible according to the dispensational hermeneutic are under the impression that if they refuse to stop living sinful lives God will chastise them by ending their earthly lives and taking them straight to heaven. The KJV tells the truth: If ye (addressed to Christians) live after the flesh ye shall die. The context reveals that this death is a spiritual death, not a death that serves the purpose of hastening one's entrance into heaven.]

That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

Eph. 4:14

in order that we may be no longer babes, tossed and carried about by every wind of *that* teaching [which is] in the sleight of men, in unprincipled cunning with a view to systematized error;

[The KJV warns against cunningly crafty men who purposely deceive Christians. Darby watered down this warning by presenting these deceivers as those who (operate) with a view to systematized error. Error is unintentional. Deception is deliberate.]

Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:

1 Thess. 4:5

(not in passionate desire, even as the nations who know not God,)

[Concupiscence has a clearly negative connotation whereas "passionate desire" does not!]

For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.

1 Thess. 4:7

For God has not called us to uncleanness, but in sanctification.

[Darby changed the Bible to support his osas teaching that God called Christians in sanctification. [According to Darby-inspired teachings, as soon as you pray the "sinner's prayer" you are sanctified for life--regardless of conduct.) The real Bible teaches that God has called his people unto holiness--unto living a holy life.]

He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit.

1 Thess. 4:8

He therefore that [in this] disregards [his brother], disregards, not man, but God, who has given also his Holy Spirit to you.

[Despiseth has the connotation of contempt. Disregards means to pay no attention to.]

Abstain from all appearance of evil.

1 Thess. 5:22

hold aloof from every form of wickedness.

[The real Bible--KJV-- warns us to abstain from even the appearance of evil. It is no wonder John Darby changed that verse because his own translation has many appearances of evil.]

But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

2 Peter 2:1

there were false prophets also among the people, as there shall be also among you false teachers, who shall bring in by the bye destructive heresies, and deny the master that bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction;

[Since Darby removed the words, "damned and damnation" from his bible, it follows that he removed "damnable" as well.]

I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren.

1 Thess. 5:27

I adjure you by the Lord that the letter be read to all the [holy] brethren.

[Darby's use of brackets indicates that the corrupt manuscripts (on which he based his translation) did not include the word, "holy.")

And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,

2 Thess 1:7

and to you that are troubled repose with us, at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven, with [the] angels of his power,
Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

2 Pet. 1:20

knowing this first, that [the scope of] no prophecy of scripture is had from its own particular interpretation,

[Since Darby's interpretations of scripture were indeed private, it behooved him to change this verse.]

Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.

2 Thess. 2:15

So then, brethren, stand firm, and hold fast the instructions which ye have been taught, whether by word or by our letter.

[Darby required his followers to hold fast his instructions rather than hold the biblical traditions.]

But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

Matthew 6:7

But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as those who are of the nations: for they think they shall be heard through their much speaking.

[Modern translations such as the NKJV also exchange nation for heathen. See more examples.]

¶ Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

Matthew 4:1

Then Jesus was carried up into the wilderness by the Spirit to be tempted of the devil:

[The Darby Bible gives the false impression that Jesus was bodily carried by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness!]

Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

Matthew 7:17

So every good tree produces good fruits, but the worthless tree produces bad fruits.
A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

Matthew 7:18

A good tree cannot produce bad fruits, nor a worthless tree produce good fruits.
Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.

Matthew 12:31

For this reason I say unto you, Every sin and injurious speaking shall be forgiven to men, but speaking injuriously of the Spirit shall not be forgiven to men.

[John Darby removed the words "blasphemy against the Holy Ghost" and softened it to "speaking injuriously of the Spirit."]

But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:

Mark 3:29

but whosoever shall speak injuriously against the Holy Spirit, to eternity has no forgiveness; but lies under the guilt of an everlasting sin;

[John Darby (along with other modernist Bible translators) removed the obvious penalty of eternal damnation and changed it to a sin (rather than hell) that lasts forever: "lies under the guilt of an everlasting sin;"

Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.

John 5:14

After these things Jesus finds him in the temple, and said to him, Behold, thou art become well: sin no more, that something worse do not happen to thee.

[People often "become well" with time and nursing care. Jesus Christ made the man whole and told him so: "thou art made whole!" Darby denied that Jesus Christ healed this man with his false wording in his false "bible" version.]

She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

John 8:11

And she said, No one, sir. And Jesus said to her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

[Darby's version replaces "Lord" with "sir."]

Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.

John 8:34

Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Every one that practises sin is the bondman of sin.
And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

John 16:8

And having come, he will bring demonstration to the world, of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

[It is Satan, not the Holy Spirit, who brings demonstration of sin to the world! The Holy Spirit reproves the world of sin (convinces of a fault)!]

For he that is dead is freed from sin.

Romans 6:7

For he that has died is justified from sin.
Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 6:11

So also *ye*, reckon yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus

[Darby, like so many biblical textual critics, failed to include, "our Lord."]

***But if any man think that he behaveth himself uncomely toward his virgin, if she pass the flower of her age, and need so require, let him do what he will, he sinneth not: let them marry.

1 Cor. 7:36

George Ricker Berry Greek to English Interlinear: But if anyone thinks [he] behaves unseemly to his virginity, if he be beyond [his] prime, and so it ought to be, what he wills let him do, he does not sin: let them marry

But if any one think that he behaves unseemly to his virginity, if he be beyond the flower of his age, and so it must be, let him do what he will, he does not sin: let them marry.

[Darby and Newberry changed the verse drastically on their own authority.]

Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

1 Timothy 6:19

laying by for themselves a good foundation for the future, that they may lay hold of what is really life.

[Darby replaced eternal life with "what is really life."]

For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

John 1:17

For the law was given by Moses: grace and truth subsists through Jesus Christ.

[The KJV wording indicates that grace and truth "came by" or originated with Jesus Christ.) Darby's Version says that grace and truth subsists (is caused to stand) through Jesus Christ.]

So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

Heb. 9:28

thus the Christ also, having been once offered to bear the sins of many, shall appear to those that look for him the second time without sin for salvation.

See: Darby Version: Title of New Age World Teacher Replaces Christ

¶ For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

Titus 2:11-12

For the grace of God which carries with it salvation for all men has appeared, teaching us that, having denied impiety and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, and justly, and piously in the present course of things,
O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called: Which some professing have erred concerning the faith.

1 Timothy 6:20, 21

O Timotheus, keep the entrusted deposit, avoiding profane, vain babblings, and oppositions of false-named knowledge, of which some having made profession, have missed the faith.

[Darby changed "erred" to "missed" thereby removing the truth that a real Christian can fall into error concerning the faith.]

¶ Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned: From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling;

1 Timothy 1:5, 6

¶ But the end of what is enjoined is love out of a pure heart and a good conscience and unfeigned faith; which [things] some having missed, have turned aside to vain discourse,

[Darby inserted unconditional eternal security doctrine by changing "swerved" to "missed." (This supports his false definition of apostasy which Scofield popularized in his Reference Bible.) Darby removed the truth as found in the KJV: A Christian can swerve (turn aside) from the faith.]

For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

Gen 3:5

but God knows that in the day ye eat of it, your eyes will be opened, and ye will be as God, knowing good and evil

Darby's note: Or 'as gods.'

[John Darby used his "bible version" to insert the satanic doctrine that the fall of man amounted to becoming like God! The real Bible (KJV) says the serpent said "ye shall be as gods" knowing good and evil.]

Darby's footnote, "Or 'as gods' evidences that he considered God and gods to be interchangeable in this verse.

[In Satanism, Satan is the supreme being, and the God of the Bible is considered to be a fallen god of contemptible character.]

But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.

Rom 11:4

But what says the divine answer to him? I have left to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed knee to Baal.

[Occultists and New Agers believe they receive divine answers. The real Bible says answer of God.]

If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:

Eph. 3:2

(if indeed ye have heard of the administration of the grace of God which has been given to me towards you,

[Paul was not given the administration of the grace of God.]

¶ For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;

Eph. 2:14

¶ For *he* is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of enclosure,

[An enclosure means to surround; to shut in; to confine on all sides. A partition is a division or separation by the creation of a boundary that divides.]

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Eph. 6:12

because our struggle is not against blood and flesh, but against principalities, against authorities, against the universal lords of this darkness, against spiritual [power] of wickedness in the heavenlies.

[It is Satan's followers who regard devils as universal lords!]

But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,

Heb. 12:22, 23

but ye have come to mount Zion; and to [the] city of [the] living God, heavenly Jerusalem; and to myriads of angels, the universal gathering; and to [the] assembly of the firstborn [who are] registered in heaven; and to God, judge of all; and to [the] spirits of just [men] made perfect;

[Darby added the phrase, "the universal gathering." Darby's re-wording not withstanding, fallen angels will not be there.]

Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

Eph. 2:2

in which ye once walked according to the age of this world, according to the ruler of the authority of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience:

(In this verse Darby removed the truth that Christians used to walk according to the course [ways] of this world.)

(Darby caused 1 Tim 6:15 to say that Jesus Christ is the only ruler. However, he marked his "bible" for his master by making the ruler mean Satan. Click here to see what I mean.

And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Gen 3:15

And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; he shall crush thy head, and thou shalt crush his heel.

[Bruise does not mean crush. A bruise does not break the skin whereas something that is crushed is distorted by pressure. The Lord Jesus Christ was not crushed by Satan.]

The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.

Matthew 13:39

and the enemy who has sowed it is the devil; and the harvest is the completion of the age, and the harvestmen are angels.

[J. N. Darby altered New Testament prophetic passages by replacing the word, "world" with "age" (period of time) in order to promote the dispensationalist paradigm shift. In these instances, the substitution of the word, "age" for "world" communicates the notion of the end of the dispensation rather than the end of the world.]

Cyrus Scofield defined dispensation as it is used for the dispensationalist hermeneutic in his 1917 Reference Bible:

"A dispensation is a period of time during which man is tested in respect to some specific revelation of the Will of God" [emphasis mine]

¶ And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.

Gen 4:1

And Man knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bore Cain, and said, I have acquired a man with Jehovah.

[Acquiring a man from the Lord is TOTALLY different from having a man with the Lord! This is blasphemy. Note: Satan and his devils have carnal communion with human beings, not God!

Take note of the fact that John Darby and his Plymouth Brethren contemporary, Thomas Newberry more often than not, differed with the KJV translators regarding prepositions. This paved the way for them to promote the false doctrine via their "bible" versions that the mark of the beast is "on" rather than "in." Some prominent dispensational teachers are following suit.

But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.

The context of this verse is clear that Paul is talking about a woman's natural covering that is a glory to her personally--her hair.

1 Corinthians 11:15

But woman, if she have long hair, it is glory to her; for the long hair is given to her in lieu of a veil.

[Darby radically changed the verse to mean that long is hair is given to a woman instead of a veil.]
