Beware of Being "Slain in the Spirit"
The question about being slain in the spirit came up on a list serv. This is my response:
The "slaying in the spirit" phenomenon often occurs in occult rituals. No person, no matter how set apart for God, has the ability to control the person of the Holy Spirit. If you have been in a church service in which someone has
"prayed for you" which resulted in you becoming knocked unconscious or thrown to the floor, you need to renounce this "slaying in the spirit" experience in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, because the spirit that "slayed" you was not the Holy Spirit.
The laying on of hands must be approached very carefully too. It
is common for witches or satanists to represent themselves as Christians and lay
hands on a Christian and "pray" and thus transfer demons to him or
her.
While the demonic laying on of hands occurs often in charismatic churches,
it is commonly done in Baptist churches too. Those who have had hands
"suddenly" laid upon them need to pray and ask God to cleanse them from all
filthiness of flesh and spirit they have received from this experience.
Other demonic traps include the "slaying in the spirit" experience (some people have experienced this many times), holding hands in a circle and praying (this is not
biblical; witches do this in churches to create a sacred circle and Christian join right in unaware of what they are participating in), and anything else the Lord brings to mind. Many Christians have counterfeit tongues and other false gifts. These
false gifts must be renounced in the name of Jesus Christ and the spirits that came in must be
told to leave in Jesus' name.
The Christian who is in need of spiritual cleansing must first repent of and then renounce all the unscriptural activities they have been involved with and renounce the demons they have invited into their lives. If God's people give place to the devil by violating the Word of God, he will definitely take it.
The Tribulation is coming and we need to be free of the influence of unclean spirits in order to hear the voice of our Shepherd, the Lord Jesus Christ. If we do not rid ourselves of the spiritual filthiness we have picked up through sin and unscriptural "church" practices, we won't be able to distinguish the voice of our Lord from the voices of the unclean spirits who seek to lead us into spiritual and physical destruction in the time ahead.
Satan has many demonic "carrots" that he employs to lure Christians to destruction such as Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings (very satanic), Star Wars, Star Trek, etc. The purpose of these ungodly lures is to pave the way for God's people to be spiritually overcome during the Tribulation.
I don't mean to make this so long. I Just felt led to share for the sake of others. I feel that you are aware of all this. God bless you and thank you for your insightful posts.

Another person wrote to a message board and described this situation:
There was an evangelist that came to the church I used to attend yearly. Every time she came to the end of the service and was giving her alter call, I left. I watched so many people gather at the front of the Church and she would pray with them and then they just fell out. It really scared me since I did not understand what was going on. One year I did not make it out of the Church without her grabbing me and saying she wanted to pray with me. I could not argue, even though the power in her voice and what I had saw happen scared me! Anyhow, she prayed with me and then.....boom! All I know is that I was in the floor with people all around me and I just started laughing, I could not stop.
Even though it happened to me, I cannot explain it. I do not remember falling, how long I was lying there or what was going on while I was lying there. All I know is that it is real.....I just can't explain it! I was having a very hard time in life at that time, maybe it was just Gods way of giving me the Holy Spirit in a very noticeable way so that I would KNOW that I was not alone. I am hard-headed (even to this day), maybe that is what it took for me to see. I dunno!
My response:
According to the way you described the way this woman insisted on praying with you (laying hands on you) and how you were knocked out reveals that something that is not of God was going on.
The Holy Spirit does not perform on cue. He ministers according to His will, not the will of the person doing ministry. Demons will perform on cue if it is in their best interests to do so. Deceiving many into receiving curses is their goal and they will perform on cue and make the "Christian" laying on hands look "oh, so spiritual." He (or she) is spiritual all right, but it is with the wrong kind of spirits!
The fact that you always avoided her in the past shows that you did not trust her and the fact that she came after you is exactly how occultists posing as Christians impart demons to Christians in churches. They do this by the laying on of hands, and because the REAL, laying on of hands is in the Bible and is legitimate, of course they will use the counterfeit laying on of hands, and if God's people don't know the difference they are home free to put demons into all these Christians who are unknowingly giving Satan "place." "Neither give place to the devil."
This woman wanted to do this suddenly, and this is the opposite of what scripture declares: "Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men's sins: keep thyself pure." 1 Tim. 5:22
Laying on of hands "suddenly" goes both ways. The person laying on hands can get demons from this, or the one who is having hands laid upon them can get them. This is one way evil spirits are transferred.
When my husband and I were searching for a church, we visited a (Baptist) church where we knew with a certainty a certain person in the congregation was a witch. At every altar call she would go up and lay hands on certain women who were up at the altar praying. I would go up and pray against what she was doing, and I was grieved by this unbiblical and spiritually harmful practice. Christians are being hurt terribly in churches by infiltrators and when they receive a transference of spirits by this unbiblical, demonic laying on of hands they are adversely affected in their lives even though they have no idea this transference took place.
Please seek the Lord about this and if he confirms my suspicions are correct, you need to repent to the Lord of allowing her to lay hands upon you and pray, and then renounce doing this and order all evil spirits that came into your life by this submitting to this unbiblical "laying on of hands," to leave you in Jesus' name.
Someone else wanted a clarification:
Can an evil spirit be transferred to a spirit filled person?
When is laying on of hands ever appropriate?
How are you ever sure that the person laying hands on you is pure of heart? "Can an evil spirit be transferred to a spirit filled person?"
My response:
Yes. Being spirit-filled is no protection from reaping what one has sown. Please see and hear examples of evil spirits being transferred to Christians by false prophets who are behaving as though they wielding Holy Spirit power in order to "slay" Christians in the Spirit. By all appearances they are cursing Christians with demons because the Holy Spirit is NOT under the authority of man. The Holy Spirit cannot be controlled in any way by man, but demons will definitely perform on command.
"When is laying on of hands ever appropriate?"
My response:
Please see Diane Dew's Laying on
of Hands bible outline. I have quoted from part of it below.
Many occasions are given in scripture for the laying on of hands:
Physical healing (Matthew 8:2-4, 15; 20:34; Mark 1:41; 6:5, 5:3, 7:32, 33; 8:23, 25; 16:18; Acts. 9:10-12, 17; 28:8, James 5:14 and more
Spiritual deliverance: Luke 4:40, 41; 13:11-13
The baptism in the Holy Spirit: Acts 8:17-19; 9:12; 19:6
The impartation of the gifts of the Holy Spirit: 1 Tim 4:14, 2 Tim 1:6
Separation for ministry Acts 6:5,6; Acts 13:3
Raising of the dead: Matthew 9:18, 25
Impartation of spiritual blessing Mark 10:13, 16 (Matt. 19:13-15) Counterfeit is cursing people with demons!
Various miracles: Acts 5:12; 14:3
(This is not a complete list)
"How are you ever sure that the person laying hands on you is pure of heart?"
Great wisdom needs to be exercised in ministering through the laying on of hands:
Hands should be laid upon those persons "in whom is the Spirit." Numbers 27:18
Paul exhorted us to "lay hands suddenly upon no man." 1 Tim. 5:22
One must wait upon the Lord and until He gives the assurance that the person to lay hands upon you is truly of him. This is not to be done "suddenly" or under pressure by the person wanting to lay hands upon you.
Diane Dew wrote: "A distinct transformation took place in the life and ministry of Joshual the son of Nun, after Moses had laid his hands upon him and given him authority over the people of God." Read Numbrs 27:18-23 and Deut. 34:9: "And Joshua the son of Num was full of the spirit of wisdom: for Moses had laid his hands upon him. . ."
Occultists know the power of the laying on of hands and use it to harm those in the body of Christ. Christians must
study what the Bible says about this practice so they can both protect
themselves and others from the counterfeit (demonic) laying on of hands and
insist on the biblical laying on of hands. This can only be done in obedience to the word of God in conjunction with the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Someone wrote, "If you are Spirit filled, it is possible to be oppressed or harassed by an evil spirit, but not possessed by an evil spirit.
Maybe I misunderstand what you are saying?"
My response:
I think you are asking if the temple of the Holy Spirit (the Christian's body) can be defiled by evil spirits; in other words can evil spirits enter into same temple the Holy Spirit dwells.
Logic seems to tell us that because the Holy Spirit is in the body of the Christian, then it is a given that no evil spirit can enter under any circumstances. Logic also seems to say that as soon as the Holy Spirit enters a temple with demons in it they will flee instantly.
1 Cor. 3:16-17 says, "Know ye not that ye are the temple of God and that the spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are."
Christians know their bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit, but they often don't face the fact that their temples (where the Holy Spirit resides) can be defiled: If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy.
Defile means: To make unclean; to render foul or dirty; in a general sense.
2. To make impure; to render turbid; as, the water or liquor is defiled.
The scripture teaches that the temple of the Holy Spirit can be rendered foul, dirty, and impure. The fact that the temple of the Holy Spirit can be defiled in no way affects the holiness of the Spirit of God within, but it does affect the Christian himself.
Any Christian who willfully sins and consorts with demons knowingly or unknowingly through deliberate sin, is defiling his own temple and will receive the recompense of his deeds. He will reap what he has sown. Demons are actively involved in tempting mankind (including Christians) to sin, and if a Christian gives place or opportunity to the devil, the devil will take it.
Christians are commanded to "cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God." 2 Cor. 7:1
I believe God protects his own with a hedge, such as Job had: "Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land" Job 1:10, (and Job 3:23) but hedges can be broken because of sin: "He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him." Eccle. 10:8 Also see: Ps. 80: 11-13
Most churches preach that no Christian can ever have a demon under any circumstances. It is no wonder so many Christians feel perfectly safe from all spiritual harm even while participating in occult-related leisure time activities or while watching moral filth via the computer, television, music, movies, etc.
The King James Bible does not use the phrase "demon possessed." The Bible uses the phrase "hath a devil" or "possessed with a devil" and that is of course, an accurate phrase. Satan does not own or possess any Christian, but a Christian can be afflicted with (possessed with) devils through defiling sins such as sexual sin, occult involvement, drug abuse, use of pornography, etc.
My own husband was born into a family of satanism that goes back more than 10 generations. When he was saved he was not automatically delivered from the evil spirits that he was born with and through those he obtained through his wicked grandfather's satanic "ministry" in his life. My husband was genuinely saved, but the evil spirits he had did not automatically leave at his conversion.
He had to be delivered by the mighty name of Jesus, and we praise God for his mercy towards us. I also needed this ministry because of my own ancestry and because demons are transferred through the one-flesh relationship.
I know that most believers will not ask the Lord if they have problems that stem from the demonic realm, and they cling to their ideas that this cannot ever happen to a Christian. I had to give up this false belief when God required me to minister to my deeply demonically afflicted husband, and later to receive help myself. I had to help Gary first because he was more deeply afflicted.
It is true that any Christian who has been involved with the occult (in any form) either before or after salvation (including inheritance) or sexual sin or drug abuse needs to confess and repent of these sins before the Lord and renounce every aspect of such involvement, and tell the evil spirits to leave in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Also, please beware of false deliverance ministries,
which by far make up the majority of deliverance ministries today. Satan counterfeits every real work that God is doing and one of his favorite ways to prey on Christians is via pseudo-Christian deliverance ministries.
I refer to these types of "ministries" as predatory deliverance,
which is exorcism that involves the transfer of spirits from the
afflicted individual to the "deliverance minister" (witch.)
I will be writing more on this topic later.
