 Should Christians Evangelize on Halloween?

Should Christians Give out Tracts For Trick-or-Treat?

halloween evangelism god does not endorse

Christians must not evangelize by participating in the Trick-or-Treat tradition.

There is no problem with handing out gospel tracts and tracts that expose the truth about Halloween during the day on Halloween or even at night, as long as you do not engage in traditions devised to glorify Satan in order to do so.

Don't allow Christian ministries who sell Halloween tracts or bogus Christian ministries that glorify Halloween to convince you otherwise. No child of God should yoke evangelizing the lost with the trick-or-treat ritual.

Would you bow down to a statue of Buddha and hand out gospel tracts while doing so to evangelize the lost?

Would you bow to "Allah" (the moon god) and hand out gospel tracts while doing so in order to evangelize the lost?

Would you bow to a statue of Mary or partake of the Mass and hand out gospel tracts while doing so in order to evangelize the lost?

Then why would you participate in the occult tradition of trick-or-treat in order to evangelize the lost on Halloween?

As a true Christian, you know you can't serve Jesus Christ by denying him with your actions. That is why you must stand for God and against spiritual compromise in all forms. God expects his people to know the difference between the holy and profane and to discern between the clean and the unclean. (See Ezekiel 44:23)

You will have a much greater testimony with the lost by not engaging in a holiday that even they know has nothing to do with God!

There are ways to evangelize on Halloween without resorting to giving out gospel tracts as part of the Trick-or-Treat tradition. For example, since people tend to come to your door on Halloween night you can place gospel booklets in a basket on a lighted porch so children can take them if they wish. Any child or teen old enough to trick-or-treat without an accompanying parent can read a sign that says, "Take one— FREE." If the children are too young to read, the adult who accompanies them can read the sign and take one and read it for themselves and to their children. One can share the gospel on Halloween night, and do it without touching the unclean thing.

Speaking of what is unclean, Trick-or-Treat might look like an innocent game that children play in order to receive candy but it is actually a tradition that is symbolic of human sacrifice. In God's sight trick-or-treat is an abomination. His people, who have the mind of Christ, walk in the light and reject the darkness of this custom that comes from Satan and is employed on his special night -- the highest day of human sacrifice of the year.

What if Satan tries to trick you into honoring his trick-or-treat ritual?

What should you do if the trick-or-treaters walk right past the tracts in the basket and knock on your door anyway? Open the door. When the children or teens shout, "Trick-or-Treat!" kindly tell them and the adults who are accompanying them, that you have no treat because you are Christians and do not celebrate Halloween. Then ask them if you may share with them how they can be forgiven of their sins and become a child of God. See if they are willing to engage in conversation about this. If not, tell them there are gospel booklets in the basket and invite them to take one.

Responding, with the words, "we have no treat" and not handing the trick-or-treaters a "treat" sends the message to the children (and to  Satan who is very legalistic) that you are not paying homage to Satan by participating in his trick-or-treat ritual and you will not be tricked into it either.

Furthermore, these non-compromising actions demonstrate to a lost and dying world that while Halloween and Christianity do not mix, God is still using this time to reach out in love to those who don't yet know him.

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

Unto God be the glory in his church, even on Halloween!

Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen. Eph. 3:21
