Sound Doctrine = Doctrine That is Free From Disease?
Jesus said, "My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. If
any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine whether it be of God, or
whether I speak of myself." John 7:16, 17
As you read this article, ask
yourself this question:
Is D. A. Waite, Jr.'s definition of the very common word,
"sound," as it is used in "sound doctrine," speaking what God wants him to say
or is he repeating the words of a stranger?
Sound, as in "sound doctrine" appears four times in
the King James Bible:
For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with
mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any
other thing that is contrary to sound
doctrine; 1 Tim. 1:10
For the time will come when they will not endure
sound
doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to
themselves teachers, having itching ears; 2 Tim. 4:3
Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he
may be able by sound
doctrine both to exhort and to
convince the gainsayers. Tts. 1:9
But speak thou the things which become
sound doctrine:
Tts. 2:1
What does "Sound," in "Sound Doctrine" Mean in the
Bible?
The word, "sound," as in "sound doctrine," has a specific
meaning in the Bible:
Founded in truth; firm; strong;
valid; solid; that cannot be overthrown or refuted;
as sound reasoning; a sound argument; a sound objection;
sound doctrine; sound principles. [emphasis mine][1]
"Sound
doctrine" is doctrine that is founded in truth.
Sound doctrine is "in exact accordance with that
which is, or has been; or shall be" [2] and as such
it cannot be overthrown or refuted no matter how diligently Satan's servants
work through the sphere of religion to do so.
What Does D. A. Waite, Jr. Say "Sound," in "Sound
Doctrine" Means?
D. A. Waite,
Jr.'s DEFINED King James Bible says that "sound," as it is used in
"sound doctrine," means "healthy." (This statement is in reference to 2 Timothy
4:3 and Titus 2:1)
"Sound" can mean healthy in the
correct context, but "sound" (as in sound doctrine)
does not mean healthy in the King James Bible.
Is doctrine something that can be be described as healthy?
What does "healthy" mean?
Healthy means having good health, or doing what is conducive
to health:
a.
Being in a sound state; enjoying health; hale; sound; as a healthy body or
constitution.
1. Conducive to health; wholesome; salubrious; as a healthy exercise; a healthy
climate; healthy recreations. [3]
Health: the condition of
being sound in body, mind, or spirit; especially :
freedom from physical disease or pain [4]
Review
Sound doctrine does not mean healthy doctrine—doctrine
that enjoys health.
Sound doctrine is doctrine founded in truth.

and 5b for important notes about D. A. Waite, Jr.'s
treatment of "sound" in 1 Tim. 1:10 and his shocking definition for "doctrine"
in Titus 1:9.

D. A. Waite, Jr. chose not to draw attention to "sound" in 1
Tim. 1:10. He ignored "sound" in sound doctrine in this
particular text. [b] In a footnote for Titus 1:9, Waite bolded
the word, "doctrine" and defined it as "healthy"!
Please note that this spiritually undermining "error" is found
in my copy of The DEFINED King James Bible—the
11th printing. It has not been corrected in spite of annual
reprintings of this work since 1998.
