Does God Want Christians to Kill Their Body
Parts?
The Bible For Today wants the readers of The DEFINED King
James Bible to believe that God commands Christians to kill their body parts.
Note The DEFINED King James Bible's definitions for
two particular words in the Scripture below:
Mortify10
therefore your members12b
which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil
concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: Colossians 3:5
10
destroy the
vitality or vigor of (Gk destroy, kill)
12b body parts
"Members" does NOT refer to literal body parts in this passage.
The context makes this obvious to me, but would this be so plain to children,
people new to the Bible, and those who speak English as a second language? No,
it would not.
Right after Paul wrote, "mortify your members which are upon
the earth" he made a list of what needs to be mortified as follows:
fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil
concupiscence, and covetousness. which is idolatry.
To mortify your members is to put to death your
sinful lusts and corruptions of your heart.
Granted, parts of the body are used to sin with but Paul teaches in Colossians 3:5 that a Christian must put to death
his sinful lusts—not destroy parts of his physical body.
Beware. Definitions that are
designed to deceive are found throughout The DEFINED King James Bible.
