"The Christ" is used
131 times in the Darby Version, whereas the KJV uses this term only 19 times. John Darby replaced the word, "Christ" with the
title of the New Age Maitreya, "the Christ" over 100 times in his Darby
Version. Changing the word, Christ
to "the Christ" so many times has a definite conditioning effect upon
the reader. It also has a depersonalizing effect, which corresponds to the way New
Agers view "the Christ."
New Agers distinguish
between Jesus of Nazareth and "The Christ." They believe that
Jesus "volunteered his body for use by
the Christ." In their minds the Christ is an "occult savior."

In the KJV,
the word, "Christ" refers to a specific individual, Jesus of Nazareth,
the Son of God. Most New Agers do not consider the word, Christ to be the
name of an individual; rather, they regard it the name of an office or function:
"In fact, the title Christ does not refer to
an individual at all. It is the name of a function in the Hierarchy of Masters
of Wisdom, that group of advanced beings who guide the evolution of humanity
from behind the scenes. "

Why did John Darby
change the word, Christ (which refers to the individual, Jesus of Nazareth in the KJV) to "the Christ" which New Agers regard as the office and title of their New
Age World Teacher?
